Morning Star (27 Nov)

There are few words that can describe the pleasure of singing together at Christmas, and ACS will sing with absolute joy, carols old and new. We are proud to commission a new carol from South Australian composer and ACS alto Rachel Bruerville (whose ACS commission and performance of In Due Season was nominated for Vocal/Choral Work of the Year in the APRA AMCOS /Australian Music Centre 2019 Art Music Awards), and will be joined by St Peter’s Cathedral organist David Heah. With the most uplifting music of the season, Morning Star is a celebration of Christmas in full ACS jubilant style.

Featuring music by Byrd, Britten, Matthias, Jonathan Dove, Sally Beamish and glorious traditional carols.

We are drawn to light and we yearn for its transformative power. We plan our days around the rhythm of its presence and absence; we use it to symbolise our emotional well-being; it is a metaphor for our understanding; we crave its spark for renewal and warmth; and even in our funeral rites we sing of its power to bestow a peaceful eternity. This is music that carries us towards the light.
