Five of Australia’s finest chamber choirs in concert over three days.

Adelaide Chamber Singers warmly invites you to experience five of Australia’s finest chamber choirs live in concert, as we perform individually and together as part of the inaugural Adelaide Chamber Choir Festival. With five unique concert programs over three days on Kaurna Country, including a number of world premiere performances, the festival is an opportunity to hear the very best of Australian choral singing in the sublime acoustics of Christ Church North Adelaide, Elder Hall and St Peter’s Cathedral.

On Sunday 8 October, the festival Finale features the premiere of epic new commission for five combined chamber choirs from our festival curator, Dr Carl Crossin OAM (ACS Founder & Conductor Emeritus).

The Adelaide Chamber Choir Festival opens with Adelaide Chamber Singers, Sydney Chamber Choir, and Voyces (Perth). Featuring the South Australian premiere of Elizabeth Younan’s Espoir, commissioned by Sydney Chamber Choir, this concert includes a selection of award-winning works by young composers (concert one of five across three days).

Christ Church, North Adelaide

The second concert of the Adelaide Chamber Choir Festival features Brisbane Chamber Choir, Polyphonic Voices (Melbourne) and Adelaide Chamber Singers. This program ranges from core Renaissance choral works to contemporary pieces, including a recent work by Andrew Schultz commissioned by Brisbane Chamber Choir in 2022 (concert two of five across three days).

In concert three of five, our singers showcase the rich diversity of chamber choir repertoire from Byrd to Debussy to Stephen Leek, along with a world premiere composed by Polyphonic Voices member, Lachlan McDonald. Featuring Polyphonic Voices (Melbourne), Brisbane Chamber Choir and Adelaide Chamber Singers.

All five choirs of the Adelaide Chamber Choir Festival are committed to presenting contemporary Australian music, and we will hear many new works across the festival. Concert four brings together Adelaide Chamber Singers, Sydney Chamber Choir, and Voyces (Perth), and features Joe Twist’s An Australian Song Cycle (2021) which sets eight poems from diverse Australian voices.

The Adelaide Chamber Choir Festival culminates with the premiere of an epic new commission for five combined chamber choirs from our festival curator, Dr Carl Crossin OAM (Adelaide Chamber Singers Founder & Conductor Emeritus). This concert individually showcases all five choirs, and opens with award-winning South Australian composer Anne Cawrse.
